Boat Club Productions Marks 5 Years With 2026 Season

By Sheryl Jensen

Boat Club Productions rolled out their new season announcement with a splashy Theatre Gala on January 3 in Fitger’s Spirit of the North Theatre and the August Fitger Room. The event included appetizers, dinner, and dessert from Boat Club Restaurant, a silent auction, and games.

A Broadway-themed theatre showcase from some of the area’s most talented performers was an exciting part of the festivities.

Performers from the Gala’s musical showcase, curated by Peter Froehlingsdorf.

Over the last five years, Boat Club Productions, led by Jason Vincent, has made substantial improvements to the Spirit of the North Theatre and positioned itself as a thriving theater company with a growing subscription base.

100 percent of the proceeds from the Gala evening will benefit Boat Club Productions’ 2026 season.

One of the highlights of the evening was the announcement of the four-show Main Stage Season and the announcement of three special productions that will also add to the four shows that are part of their subscription series.

“This classic comedy opens on a friendly card game in the untidy apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Felix Ungar, who has just been separated from his wife, arrives late. Fastidious and depressed, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together.”

“Ole Olafsson Jr., a Norwegian, and Lena Handspringinnen, a Finn, are getting married at their local Lutheran Church. Of course, their nuptials go down about as nicely as a mouthful of Lutefisk. Lena’s mother, Gladys, fusses over all the food she’s prepared “without any help from anyone” for the reception. An accordion player comes down from Eveleth because all the Catholics are getting married, and the organists are all booked up. Finally, after 45 minutes of service, the guests retire to the banquet hall for food and a chance to do the Hokey Pokey, the Chicken Dance, and the Polka.”

“A heartwarming and comedic musical that takes place in a small Midwestern town. The story revolves around a group of women who tirelessly work behind the scenes in the church basement, preparing food and organizing events for the congregation. The ladies, including the witty matriarch Vivian, the sweet and wise matriarch’s daughter Signe, the enthusiastic and cheerful Mavis, and the sassy and mischievous Karin, form a tight-knit sisterhood as they navigate the joys and challenges of their roles in the church community.”

“What began as an average day in the town of Gander, Newfoundland, turned into an international sleepover when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander welcomed the stranded travelers with music, an open bar, and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.”

“P.D. Eastman’s classic children’s book comes to life on stage in an exploration of movement, color, and space. The dogs delve into life with gusto, creating a visual spectacle for the audience to feast upon. They snorkel. They howl at the moon. They ride a Ferris wheel. They sing, dance, and climb trees. This is a rollicking free-for-all of chicanine-ery. A big and little musical world of doggy fun. Like a pop-up book that comes to life, and never stops.”
